Why gratitude is important to you and your students:
Gratitude is linked to better academic outcomes. A study of adolescents found that students with higher levels of gratitude reported higher GPAs, greater engagement in school, and more positive relationships with teachers and classmates compared with their less grateful peers.
Gratitude improves student well-being. Research published in the Journal of School Psychology found that gratitude is associated with higher life satisfaction and lower levels of stress and depression among students—factors that support learning and school success.
Gratitude strengthens school climate. Studies suggest that when schools intentionally promote gratitude, students report greater feelings of belonging, stronger peer relationships, and more prosocial behavior, all of which contribute to a more positive learning environment.
A simple gratitude practice can make a measurable difference. In one study, students who regularly kept a gratitude journal reported greater optimism, more positive emotions, and higher satisfaction with their school experience than students who did not.
